The Margarita is dead. Long live the Caipirinha

Our signature Brazilian cocktail is the much cherished national tipple the Caipirinha. It’s made from Cachaça (Pinga or Caninha) a rum-like fermented sugarcane juice. We prepare it by muddling lime and brown sugar together, with Cachaça, fresh mint and crushed ice. If you have a sweet tooth, you can add more sugar, or extra lime for a sharper, zesty experience. There are all kinds of permutations to this cherished national concoction. We offer ‘Batida’ fruit juice variations including passion fruit, raspberry and strawberry.

If you fancy a birthday treat we will deliver a lovingly embellished, sparkling version to your table.

It’s hard to imagine that this cocktail derives from the early twentieth century when it was made with lemon, garlic and honey as an antidote to Spanish flu. It’s still imbibed as a cold remedy in Brazil. It’s so moreish you almost wish you had a sniffle or two.

If you fancy preparing one at home, place the lime and sugar into a short tumbler (preferably a thick bottomed old fashioned glass) and mash the two ingredients. Fill the glass with crushed ice and add the Cachaça. Stir briefly and garnish with a lime wedge.

Brazilian bliss.
